Chrysler Group LLC announced some updates to the Jeep Wrangler series. The company said that the 2012 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited will get a new 3.6-liter V-6 engine. The company also provided some information pertaining to a new Dodge compact car.
The Pentastar V-6 powertrain which first debuted on the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the most advanced six cylinder engine ever produced by the Chrysler Powertrain group. This engine is slated to be the workhorse engine across many models. The company has plans to replace seven different V-6 engines over the next three years, with the Pentastar V-6 powertrain.
Along with the announcement of Pentastar V-6 powertrain for Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler also provided some details about Dodge’s upcoming small car. The company confirmed that the model will come in sedan form and will be based on Fiat’s new compact platform, which underpins the new Alfa Romeo Giuletta. The new platform will be the architecture that will govern all of Chrysler’s C- and D-segment vehicles for the foreseeable future, the company added.
Chrysler plans to begin the production of the Dodge sedan by early 2012 at the Belvidere, Illinois, assembly plant which is currently undergoing a $600-million renovation for the model.
